- Key MIA–BRU (Brussels Airport) pharma link:
- MIA-BRU Air Service: 3 airlines – Amerijet International, DHL Express and European Air Transport (EAT) Leipzig. EAT Leipzig’s new Brussels service began in October, joining two other airlines that launched service to BRU earlier in the year – DHL Express in March and Amerijet in April. Combined, the airlines now provide 13 weekly flights between the major two pharma hubs.
- Pharma.Aero:
- Together with BRU, founded this association designed to collaborate with other pharma hub airports to advance the air pharma transport industry.
- Currently working on a Pharma.Aero Project entitled “Pharma Corridor 2.0”, which involves the strengthening of the MIA-BRU pharma trade lane while utilizing Amerijet International Airlines (in early stages of the project).
- Perishables Powerhouse:
- 62% of all U.S. air perishables imports entering through MIA
- Most on-airport refrigerated facilities for temperature-controlled products in the hemisphere: Total Area: 395,276 Square Feet
(36,722 Sq. Meters), including 7% dedicated to pharma.
` F. e-commerce:
- e-commerce Task Force: With the enormous growth of e-commerce, MIA launched an initiative to position the airport and our trade community as the e-commerce hub of the Americas.
- Brazilian Pre-Clearance Program: Based on the opportunity to serve as a platform for cross border e-commerce with Brazil and on the need for e-commerce packages to clear customs in Brazil (our top trade partner) more rapidly, MDAD worked with private sector partners, Correios (the Brazilian postal service) and the government of Brazil to create Brazil Pre-clearance Program known as Compra Fora (“Buy Outside”) program in Brazil. The program which began in 2019 makes it possible for e-commerce products to be pre-cleared in Miami and to arrive in Brazil as domestic shipments, making it possible for e-commerce parcels to arrive in Brazil in mere days instead of weeks or months.
- MIA Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) Opportunity:
- MIA FTZ Magnet Site Area encompass all 3,248 acres of the airport.
